Elephants for Elijah    

This web site is for five year old Elijah Jones who lives in Oregon in the USA with his parents and two sisters and a special friend who he calls L-Funt. That's a picture of L-Funt above.  On the 8th of August 2005 doctors confirmed that Elijah had acute lymphoblastic leukemia and the battle commenced to get him well again.

I live in Cornwall in the United Kingdom and if this had happened to my son, the National Health Service would have been looking after him and I would not have had to worry about the cost. The Oregon local Newspaper told Elijah's story in their Friday, November 18, 2005 edition.

The first year of treatment has been tough but Elijah has stood up to the pain amazingly well. His Mum wrote the following letter to me recently:

Dear George, Sandra and Bryn,
I have been thinking of you all and hope that you are all doing well.  We have been doing pretty good here.  Elijah is coming up on his first year of treatment so we will only have 2 years left.  It is amazing how fast time can go.  I also wanted to tell you that in Sept. we will be doing something called Light the Night.  It is for the Leukemia, Lymphoma Society.  We will be walking in the evening and everyone there showing support will be carrying illuminated red balloons and all the survivors will be carrying illuminated white balloons.  I have signed us up as a team and hope that we can get more walkers.  I also named our team Elephants for Elijah.  I felt that would be a special name! Also in Sept. Elijah will be starting Kindergarten.  He is pretty excited and of course I am nervous. I am sure he is going to do great but he is just growing too fast......

Light The Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide evening walk. Walkers carry illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. In Oregon the events are at Portland on Friday, September 22nd, and Eugene/Springfield on Friday, September 29th.

I'm a friend of Elijah's maternal grandparents and, whilst I can't afford to give a lot of money, I thought I might make Elijah and you smile with the help of a lot of generous people who make their graphics and music freely available on the internet. The words are mine and also the web layout.
